# Install the MCP server

URL: https://www.atmee.ai/docs/v2/agents/mcp-server/install

> Connect the Atmee MCP server to any client: its address, signing in, and using an API key where a client can't sign in.

Already installed the `atmee` plugin in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, or added the connector on
claude.ai? Then the server is connected; see [Install the skills](/docs/v2/agents/skills/install).

Any other client that speaks the Model Context Protocol (MCP) over HTTP can use the Atmee server:
it makes and changes avatars, takes uploads, generates portraits and voices, and starts
conversations. [MCP server](/docs/v2/agents/mcp-server) lists every tool.

## Server address

```text
https://api.atmanity.us/mcp
```

Most clients take a config entry like this:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "atmee-avatars": {
      "url": "https://api.atmanity.us/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

## Sign in

The server uses OAuth. The first time your client connects, it opens the "Connect an app to
Atmee" page on atmee.ai: sign in to your Atmee account and allow access. The client then acts as
you, so it can make avatars and spend your credits, and the agent asks you before any paid step.

If your login belongs to several Atmee accounts, the server answers `account_ambiguous` and
lists them; the agent asks you which one to use and sends it with each call.

You can see and revoke every connected client under **Connected agents** in your
[account settings](https://www.atmee.ai/studio/account).

## Use an API key instead

Some clients can't run an OAuth sign-in. Give them an API key instead, sent in the `X-Api-Key`
header:

1. Create a key on the [API keys page](https://www.atmee.ai/studio/api-keys) with only the scopes
   the client needs, restricted to one avatar when it serves one, and with a spend cap. See
   [API keys](/docs/v2/api/api-keys).
2. Put the key in an environment variable, such as `ATMEE_API_KEY`, and have the client's config
   read it from there.
3. Never commit a client config file that holds the key itself. Anyone who reads it can spend
   your credits until you revoke the key.

A key acts as the account, not as you: tools that need a signed-in person, such as managing API
keys, answer `login_required`.

## Get the skills too

The server gives your agent tools; the skills give it the guided flows for making an avatar,
planning an app and building one. See [Install the skills](/docs/v2/agents/skills/install) (the Other agents tab).
