Editor's Notes: This is a first-party overview written by the Atmee team. We think the fairest way to earn the trust of our readers is to be straight about what Atmee does well, where it falls short, and who should skip it.
Quick Overview
Atmee AI is a platform that lets users conduct live video conversations with AI personas. You press call, and a face-to-face conversation starts in real time. You can talk to historical figures, fictional characters, and creator-made personas, or build a verified twin of yourself.
Best for: creators who want to be present with fans around the clock, curious people who want to actually talk to an AI face-to-face, and businesses that want a live AI presence.
Skip it if: you need an enterprise avatar API to embed in your own app, you want text-only roleplay, or you want a finished video file to download. Other tools fit those jobs better, and we name them below.
Pros
- Real-time video conversation, not a pre-recorded clip
- Identity verification built in, with a visible Verified badge
- A real free tier you can try without a credit card
- Creators can earn extra income when people talk to their personas
Cons
- Our persona library may be smaller than some of our text-based competitors but we're growing every day
- Free and mid-tier plans have a session running time limit. However, our Pro users get to talk for as long as they have credits each session.
- The credit system takes a few minutes to understand
- Spoken English only for now (multi-language coming soon!)
Price: Free to start. Paid plans are $9 and $19 per month. Full breakdown below.

We have not given Atmee a star score or rating on purpose. A company scoring its own product out of five is not a rating you should trust, so we would rather give you the facts and let you decide.
What is Atmee AI?
Atmee (previously known as Atmanity) is a live AI video avatar platform. The distinction that matters most is this: Atmee hosts video calls with AI personas, it does not produce video files. Tools like Synthesia or HeyGen take a script and hand you a finished clip. Atmee does the opposite.
You can browse our Explore page with all our personas and click a button to speak directly with them, and the persona responds in real time, the same way a video call with a person works. Think of it as FaceTiming your favorite AI Avatar.
That is why "live" is the whole point. There is no script and no clip to wait for. The persona listens while you talk and replies in the moment based on the context you give it. As a result, every single interaction will be unique.
Three things you should know about Atmee:
- Talk to existing personas. The Explore library spans historical figures, fictional characters, and original creations. On any given day you might call Albert Einstein, a fictional dungeon master, or a creator's persona.
- Build your own persona or digital twin. A five-step, no-code setup gets an avatar live in under ten minutes. You set the voice and the personality.
- Earn from your persona. If you let other people talk to your avatar, you get paid when they do.[1]
The company behind Atmee is Atmanity, which brings us to the question most of you actually came here to settle.

Is Atmee AI legit? The company behind it
This is the fair question to ask about any young AI product.
Atmee is built by Atmanity, a company founded in 2024 by Chen-Ping Yu and Yi-Hsuan Tsai. Atmanity is the technology and research company, and Atmee.ai is our consumer product.
Here are our reference pages:
Those are the same signals you would check for any startup you were deciding whether to trust with your hard earned money.
Is it a scam? No. There is a named team, a registered parent company you can find on public databases, and identity verification built into the product itself. A scamming company would not put an ID verification step between users and the product.
Atmee AI pricing: is there a free version?

Yes we have a free version, and this is the easiest way to answer the "is it worth it" question for yourself.
Unlike some of our competitors, you can create an account and receive credits that renew each month for free without a credit card. We feel so strongly you'll enjoy the service, we don't hide it behind a credit card gate.
When you make an account, you receive free credits. One credit equals one minute of conversation for regular avatars. Signature Avatars (marked with a yellow star badge) require two credits per talking minute and can only be started with paid-eligible credits — meaning monthly plan credits from a paid subscription, add-on credit pack credits, or coupon credits. Free monthly credits alone are not enough to open a Signature Avatar session. Here is the current plan structure:
| Plan | Price | Credits per month | Session length | Daily chat limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 60, resets monthly | Up to 5 minutes per session | 15 minutes per day |
| Plus | $9 / month | 180 | Up to 45 minutes per session | No daily cap |
| Pro | $19 / month | 450 | No session clock, chat until credits reach 0 | No daily cap |
If you run out of credits, you can buy add-on packs, which range from $5 for 60 credits to $25 for 360 credits.
For context, Character.ai runs about $10 per month and Replika is roughly the same on its annual plan (billed yearly), and both are text or voice first, not video. Atmee sits in the same price range while giving you live video and verification. Whether that trade is worth it depends on whether live video matters to you, which is exactly what the free tier lets you test.
Note: the Free plan has two separate time limits — a 5-minute cap per individual session and a 15 min/day free chat limit. The Plus and Pro plans have no daily cap. If you want open-ended sessions with no clock at all, that is the Pro plan.
What features are included
Live video call. This is the core of the product and the thing worth trying before you judge anything else. The persona responds as you speak, not after a wait. If the live experience does not land for you, none of the other features will matter, so start here.
A verified persona layer. Any twin can go through government-ID and liveness verification and then carry a Verified badge, shown during the session. This is the direct answer to the fear that AI avatars are just deepfakes with better marketing. The badge means a real person's identity stands behind the persona. We cover the safety side of this in its own section below.
Persona depth and discovery. You are not limited to a handful of stock characters. You can browse a growing library or search for the kind of persona you want, then start a call. If you can't find exactly what you want within our hundreds of avatars, you can always make your own avatars and put them on public, unlisted or private visibility settings.
A no-code builder. Making your own persona is a five-step wizard, not an engineering project. Most customers get an avatar live in under ten minutes. You set the voice and personality without writing any code.
Creator payouts. If you turn on monetization, you earn credits when other people talk to your persona, and payouts run through Stripe Connect, the gold standard of payouts. Note however, users must use paid credits (not free credits) for monetization to count.

How it works and what it feels like
Get started in no time. Our app doesn't require a download or install. All you need is a browser (desktop or mobile) and an email to get started, or we can authenticate with Google or Discord at this time.
Building your own persona is the slightly longer path, and "longer" still means minutes, not hours. Our five-step wizard walks you through choosing a face, setting a voice, and shaping the personality. When you are done, your persona is live and callable.
We will be straight about expectations. This is real-time AI, and the quality of any live AI conversation depends on your connection and the persona's setup. Meaning, if the creator didn't spend the time to craft a compelling backstory, it's possible the experience won't feel optimal.

Is Atmee AI safe? Privacy and the deepfake question
The core safety feature is verification. A persona can be tied to a real identity through a government-ID check and it then displays a Verified (blue check) badge during conversations. The purpose is to stop someone from spinning up a persona that pretends to be you or a public figure without consent. In a category where impersonation is the headline risk, building verification in from the start is the meaningful difference.
On data, the honest guidance is to read the current privacy policy on our website before you build a twin, because policies change and the policy is the authoritative source, not a review page.
What we can tell you is that identity verification and consent are treated as part of the product, not an afterthought. If protecting your likeness is your top concern, verification is the feature to focus on.
Who Atmee is for, and who should skip it
Atmee is a strong fit if you are:
- A creator who wants to be present with your audience around the clock and earn from it
- Someone curious about talking to AI face-to-face rather than typing
- A business that wants a live, verified AI presence people can actually talk to
You should skip Atmee if you want:
- An enterprise avatar API to embed in your own product. D-ID and similar developer-first platforms fit that better.
- Text-only chat or roleplay. Character.ai is built for that and has a far larger text persona library.
- A downloadable video file. Synthesia and HeyGen produce finished clips. Atmee does not, because it is built for live conversation instead.
Pointing you elsewhere when another tool fits is the honest thing to do, and it saves you the trouble of signing up for the wrong product.
Atmee vs the alternatives
| Platform | Live video chat | Identity verification | Creator payouts | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Atmee | Yes | Yes, gov-ID via Stripe | Yes | Free, then $9/mo |
| Tavus | Yes, API optional | No | No | Free, $22–$397/mo (API) |
| Anam | Yes, API optional | No | No | Free, $12–$999/mo (API) |
| D-ID | Yes, API optional | No | No | Enterprise / API |
| Character.ai | No, text first | No | No | Free, $9.99/mo |
| Replika | Limited | No | No | Free, $8.08–$10.33/mo (yearly) |
The pattern is straightforward: most of these do one part of what Atmee does, and the closest competitors are built for developers, not for you.
Tavus and Anam are the real peers on live video. Both render photorealistic AI avatars that talk back in real time. Anam advertises sub-200ms responses, and Tavus builds its own rendering and conversation models. Where they can be better than Atmee: they offer an API to embed a real-time avatar inside your own product, with enterprise controls and compliance (Anam offers HIPAA and SOC 2). So if you are a developer or a business building a custom support, sales, or tutoring agent, they are the stronger fit. Tavus starts free with 20 minutes, then $22 a month for its Starter developer plan (its most popular Builder tier is $59); Anam starts free with 30 minutes, then $12 a month, with per-minute overages beyond your plan.
Where Atmee shines above them: Atmee is a finished consumer product, not a toolkit. You open it and talk to a library of personas without writing a line of code or wiring up an API. It is also the only one of the three with identity verification and a Verified badge, and the only one that pays creators when people talk to their persona. Tavus and Anam give developers the engine; Atmee gives everyone the destination.
Character.ai proved millions of people want to talk to AI personas, but it is text-first with no payouts. Replika showed people will pay monthly for an AI relationship, but it is not live video. D-ID has strong real-time avatar technology, again aimed at developers.
Atmee's strength is that live video, verified identities, and creator payouts belong in one consumer product you can just use. Whether that combination is worth it to you is, again, what the free tier is for.
The verdict: is Atmee AI worth it?
Atmee is doing something genuinely different: real-time video conversations with verified AI personas, with a way for creators to earn. If that idea appeals to you, it is worth trying, and trying costs nothing because you can sign up for free without a credit card today.
The honest caveats are that the product is young, our avatar library is still filling out, and the free and mid plans cap session length. None of that is hidden, and none of it changes the core recommendation.
If you are a creator or a curious user who wants a live face-to-face AI conversation, start with the free session and decide from there. If you need an API, text roleplay, or downloadable clips, use one of the tools we named instead.
